The Biddeford High School Athletics Hall of Honor welcomed six outstanding individuals and one historic team into its ranks during an induction ceremony held on May 3, 2025, at Biddeford High School’s Little Theater. This year’s honorees exemplify the legacy of excellence, sportsmanship, and dedication that define Biddeford High School’s athletic tradition.
The Class of 2024 inductees include Robert Cote ’12, Dennis “Duke” Dutremble ’65, Debra Lebel ’75, Richard “Dick” Lemay ’69, Grace Martin ’19, Steven Simensky ’84, and the 1990 State Champion Field Hockey Team. These individuals and the team were selected for their extraordinary achievements in sports, their impact on the Biddeford athletic community, and their lasting contributions beyond the playing field.
"The Class of 2024 is impressive– from multiple state championships to record-setting performances– this group has left an undeniable mark on our sports history,” said Biddeford High School Athletic Director Dennis Walton. “Whether as athletes, coaches, or contributors to the athletic community, their impact is truly exceptional, inspiring our current and future student-athletes. It is an honor to recognize their incredible contributions and celebrate their legacy."
Richard “Dick” Lemay ’69 was a three-sport standout, leading Biddeford’s football team to back-to-back Class A State Championships in 1966 and 1967. His legendary performances on the gridiron, basketball court, and baseball field earned him All-State and All-Conference honors, cementing his place among Biddeford’s greatest athletes. Robert Cote ’12 left his mark in both basketball and baseball, earning the SMAA Basketball Player of the Year award in 2012 and setting multiple school records. His athletic and academic excellence carried him to the University of Maine, where he pursued a career in chemical engineering. Debra Lebel ’75 led Biddeford’s varsity cheerleading program for over 25 years, winning seven Class A State Championships and a New England Championship. Her commitment to “Education-Based Athletics” shaped generations of cheerleaders, instilling the values of teamwork and perseverance.
Dennis “Duke” Dutremble ’65 was a dominant force on the basketball court and football field at St. Louis High School. A former Maine State Senate President, Duke’s contributions to athletics, public service, and community engagement have left a lasting legacy. Grace Martin ’19 excelled in volleyball, basketball, and softball, earning All-State honors in multiple sports. Her leadership and skill led her to Harvard University, where she continued her athletic and academic journey. Steven Simensky ’84 played a crucial role in Biddeford’s only baseball state championship, striking out 16 batters in the 1984 title game. His passion for sports extended into his career as a neurologist and sports concussion specialist. The 1990 Field Hockey State Champions overcame the odds to capture Biddeford’s first-ever state field hockey championship. With resilience and determination, they turned an underdog season into a historic victory.
The Biddeford Athletics Hall of Honor was established in 2013 to pay tribute and honor those who have brought distinction to Biddeford High School through their athletic achievements, contributions to sports, and positive impact on the community. The Hall of Honor Selection Committee carefully evaluates nominees based on their adherence to these principles. Over the past 12 years, Biddeford has inducted 108 individuals and four teams into the Athletic Hall of Honor. The list is diverse; males and females represent nearly every athletic offering and span almost 100 years of our school's history.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, inductees and guests attended a private social held at The Lincoln Hotel, thanks to the support of the following Hall of Honor partners: Atlantic Federal Credit Union, Batson River, Bedard’s Roofing Company, Biddeford Athletic Association, Brady Screenprint & Embroidery, Camden National Bank, Randy Forcier of CMG Home Loans, Karen Garnett of Diverse Anecdote, Grattelo Landscaping, Heart of Biddeford, Joe McKenney Photography, KP Asphalt & Landscaping, Matt Forcier of LMV Productions, Magnant Seamless Gutters, Mick’s Sports Bar, MinuteMan Security & Life Safety, Paquin & Carroll Insurance, PeoplesChoice Credit Union, Prestige House of Flowers, Rousseau Insurance Agency, Ruck Roofing, Saco & Biddeford Savings, Saco Bay Tackle Company, Saco Valley Credit Union, St. Louis Alumni Association, Superior Sign Inc., The Lincoln Hotel, Thomas Behen Casting Camp, and Town & Country Federal Credit Union.
